Our practice is a training practice and we usually have trainees working with us.
There may be GP trainees (also called specialist training (ST) doctors, formerly known as registrars) who have completed a medical degree, at least 2 years postgraduate training and have entered into specialist training in primary care. GP trainees spend 6-12 months at the surgery and are supervised by Dr Smith.
There may also be Foundation doctors at the practice. These doctors have completed medical school training and a further 12-18 months of postgraduate training while in hospitals. Their time here is the first introduction to working in general practice. Some of them may wish to become GPs in the future, while others may aim to become hospital-based consultants. They spend four months at the surgery and are supervised by Dr Horsfield.
